2017 Throwback - Physics Department Crowned Convocation Cup Champions [Photos]
“We said
it and we did it” –The words of Fregene Timitayo (Goal Scorer for Physics
Department) shortly after their Convocation Cup victory over Chemical Engineering Department.
The Game was a tight one, with both teams coming close in the first half.
Physics
Department saw their best chance of the first half denied by the cross bar
while a chemical engineering striker failed to convert a glorious opportunity.
The game was also very physical, as the ambulance was called twice into the pitch of
play, thankfully no one was seriously injured.
During
half time, there was a one-half fixture between the College of Science and
College of Technology Female Teams. With the College of Technology Female Team
emerging winners with a 1- 0 win.
The
second half was also very tight, it looked like the game would be heading to
penalties when a fantastic effort in the 89th minute by Fregene
Timitayo, handed physics department the winner. The Stadium itself erupted as
fans of Physics Department ran into the field to congratulate the goal scorer.
The Vice
Chancellor, The Registrar and Other members of the University Management were
present at the venue to hand over medals and the glorious First Convocation Cup
Trophy to the players of Physics Department.
The SUG
President Comrade Blessing Ozubu and The Speaker of the Student House of
Assembly were also present at the venue to congratulate players of Physics
Department on their emergence as fupre’s first convocation cup champions.
